Lynchburg Elite Dance uses classical technique with age appropriate music to set strong foundational skills, while keeping the student engaged in class. Classical ballet, which originated in Renaissance Italy and established its present form during the 19th century, is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movements. Ballet technique classes are offered in the following ages and levels.
Clogging is a type of fold dance in which the dancer’s footwear (stompers) is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against a floor or each other to create audible rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm. Lynchburg Elite Dance offers clogging classes for ages 4-adult.
Jazz is a form that showcases a dancer’s originality. All jazz dancers interpret and execute moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing consists of fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance. Tap is a type of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. The sound is made by shoes that have a metal "tap" on the heel and toe.
At Lynchburg Elite Dance you have the opportunity to grow through the art of dance, beginning with classical tap technique taught in the combination classes for ages 2-6 and then moving up through the elementary, JV, and Varsity classes. We also offer a class focused Boy's Tap for Musical Theatre.
The word contemporary basically means anything modern. So by definition contemporary dance is a modern type of dance style of expressive dance that has been able to combine features of several genres such as modern, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and classic ballet. The dance in itself is about flexibility and connection of both body and mind through fluid movements. It is able as well to put emphasis on improvisation and versatility. The dancers largely focus on floor work while gravity is explored and felt. Contemporary requires no shoes as it is danced in bare feet. Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. Acro classes require dancers to wear dance pants and a form fitted tank/dance shirt or leotard. Acro does not require any special shoes. Mats are used in classes with the goal that students will master skills that allow them to perform some skills without a mat. Safety is a top priority at Lynchburg Elite Dance. Hip-hop dance developed from several cultures including jazz, rock, tap, and American and Latino cultures. Hip-hop is a very energetic form of dancing. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities.
